Our sprint racing program is one of many
organizations in Canada that is governed by the Canadian Canoe Association
(CCA). There are over 6500 members across Canada, ranging from beginners
to Olympic team athletes. Our paddlers compete in races locally, provincially,
and nationally. Our club has had success at all levels. The Calgary Canoe Club has had a competitive
Sprint Racing Program since 1968 and has always promoted a safe, fun,
and educational environment for young sprint racers to develop their
paddling skills. A minimum
time commitment for a new sprint paddler is typically three times
per week and five times per week for a second year paddler. All other paddlers with more than
two years experience are encouraged to join the senior training group
which regularly sets its sights on races such as the Western Canadian
and National Championships.
Some of our Senior members strive for higher goals such as
the Junior or Senior World Championships. Our Mandate
To provide
an environment for the recruitment and development of athletes in
the Sprint Racing disciplines from Learn to Kayak to High Performance. Our
Vision
To be one of the top five clubs in Canada
at the national level. The Calgary Canoe Club and its Sprint
Program has a history steeped in the development of Canoe and Kayak
athletes who have ultimately competed successfully at the national
and international level.
